Organisation set up in 1961 to pursue the “triangular paradigm” of economic growth, social cohesion and political stability. Its aims are to: stimulate employment, support sustainable economic growth, raise living standards, maintain financial stability, back other countries’ economic development and contribute to the growth of the world market. The OECD provides a context in which governments can compare policy experience, seek answers to shared problems, identify good practices and coordinate national and international policies; the peer review mechanism is a typical feature of it.
The organisation, which has its headquarters in Paris, has 30 full members, whereas over 60 countries attend various committees as observers.
