The G8 Development Ministers' Meeting, entitled “G8 Development Ministers Meeting, Global Governance for Global Solidarity”, is on the slate at the Farnesina for 11 and 12 June. The meeting's leitmotif is the impact of the economic crisis on developing countries, and it is being held after two previous rendez-vous: the European Union General Affairs and External Relations Council on Development on 18 and 19 May; and the UN High Level Conference. One of the issues on the agenda is the adoption of a multisector approach to sustainable development, the aim of which is to maximize synergy and cooperation in such areas of development as education, the environment, health and food safety and security. Going beyond the traditional Heiligendamm format, which comprises Brasil, China, India, Mexico and South Africa, plus in this instance also Egypt, representatives of the African Union, NEPAD, the United Nations (UNDESA), the OECD, the World Bank, the FAO, the IFAD, the WFP, the WHO and the African Development Bank have also been invited to attend.
