  • Civil G8 – Roma (1st day)
    • Civil G8 is a meeting organized by the Rome Municipal Authority in conjunction with the Palazzo Chigi, the Foreign Ministry and the Italian Coalition Against Poverty – GCAP.  The event, attended by representatives of civil society from all over the world, is to be held in Rome on 4 and 5 May.  At the end of the two-day working session and of the meeting with the sherpas of the G8 group of countries, the summit of associationism and NGO's will draft a document for submission to the G8 Summit in L'Aquila in July.  Workshops not open to the general public will be held on the first day.

  • Civil G8 – Roma (2nd day)
    • On the second day of the Civil G8, a debate will be held by the sherpas of the G8 group of countries.  The round table and the final news conference of the 'Civil G8' will be introduced by Italian sherpa Giampiero Massolo.  At the end of the two-day working session, a final document will be presented to the sherpas of the G8 group of countries ahead of the summit in L'Aquila, with appeals relating to:  common assets, climate changes, food sovereignty, global governance and labour.

  • G8 University Students' Summit - Palermo (1st day)
    • Representatives of university students from all over the world are to meet in Palermo on 8 and 9 May for the first G8 University Students' Summit.  The main topics for debate will include sustainable development, the ethos of legality for the promotion of peace, and the role played by these topics in the education of tomorrow's citizens.  The event, promoted in the year in which Italy holds the G8 presidency by the Conference of Italian University Chancellors and Presidents - CRUI, by the Politecnico di Torino and by the Italian National UNESCO Committee, will be attended by representative from universities in countries in the G8 group, the G5 group (Brasil, China, India, Mexico and South Africa), the Major Economies Meeting - MEM group (South Korea, Australia and Indonesia), and several countries in the Mediterranean, the Middle East and Latin America.
      Work will kick off on the first day with a session devoted to the ethos of legality and peace.

  • G8 University Students' Summit - Palermo (2nd day)
    • The second day of the G8 University Students' Summit will include a working session on the topic of educating people to sustainable development.  This will be followed by the signing of a final declaration, and the conference will be wound up by an address from Foreign Under Secretary Vincenzo Scotti.

  • G8 University Summit - Torino (1st day)
    • The G8 University Summit is a meeting of chancellors and presidents of universities in countries in the G8 group, the G5 group (Brasil, China, India, Mexico and South Africa), the Major Economies Forum - MEF group (South Korea, Australia and Indonesia), and several countries in the Mediterranean, the Middle East and Latin America.  The meeting is promoted by the CRUI (Conference of Italian University Chancellors and Presidents), by the Politecnico di Torino and by the Italian National UNESCO Committee.
      The first day's programme will include working sessions on the issues of the Economy, Ethics, Ecology and Energy, introduced by speakers of excellence:  Mario Monti, a former EU Economy Commissioner, for the Economy; Pei Gang, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, for Ethics; James Barber, President of the International Society of Photosynthesis Research, for Energy; andKwabena Akyeampong, Ghana's Deputy Minister for Tourism, for Ecology.

  • G8 University Summit - Torino (2nd day)
    • The programme on the second day of the G8 University Summit will include a final working session, and the presentation of the final declaration for submission to the Italian G8 Presidency, focusing on the four E's:  the Economy, or the correct development of a more efficient system of resources; Ethics, as a crucial guiding criterion underlying choices; Energy policy, involving the promotion of renewable energy sources and energy saving techniques; and an Ecosustainable system.

  • G8 Energy Ministers’ Meeting - Roma (1st day)
    • “Beyond the Crisis:  Towards a New World Energy Order” will be the general theme of the Energy Ministers' Meeting, which is to be held in Rome on 24 and 25 May 2009.  The G8 Energy Ministers' Meeting, preceded by a forum of businesses involved in the energy industry, will be attended by the ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Italy, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Commissioner, together with the economy ministers of emerging countries in Asia, Latin America and Africa.  The aim of the meeting is to define shared strategies to address global climate change, to promote investments in energy for security and sustainable development in the context of the current economic and financial crisis, and to define tools capable of reducing energy poverty.
      Work will begin on Sunday 24 May with the energy business forum.  The first working session proper will get under way in the afternoon, focusing on strategies to respond to global climate change.

  • G8 Energy Ministers’ Meeting - Roma (2nd day)
    • The second day of the G8 Energy Ministers' Meeting will kick off with a working session on investments in energy for security and sustainable development.  A third session is planned in the afternoon, focusing on the action plan against energy poverty:  the case of Africa.  This will be followed by the final news conference.

  • G8 Justice and Home Affairs Ministers’ Meeting - Roma (inaugural event)

  • G8 Justice and Home Affairs Ministers’ Meeting - Roma (1st day)
    • Organized crime, immigration, urban security and the struggle against terrorism are to be the issues on the agenda at the Justice and Home Affairs Ministers' Meeting, which will be held in Rome on 29 and 30 May. The meeting will be also attended by  European Commissioner Jacques Barrot, Secretary General of Interpol Ronald Noble, UNODC - United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime - Executive Director Antonio Maria Costa, UNICRI - United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute - Director Sandro Calvani, and the Interior and Justice Ministers of the Czech Republic, in its capacity as current holder of the European Union duty presidency.  The first day is to comprise two working sessions, the first devoted to organized crime, and the second devoted to migration-related issues.
      A meeting dedicated to the memory of Giovanni Falcone is scheduled to be held in the Great Hall of the Palazzo di Giustizia at 17:30.

  • G8 Justice and Home Affairs Ministers’ Meeting - Roma (2nd day)
    • The second day of the Justice and Home Affairs Ministers' Meeting will consist of a working session split into two separate meetings:  the first, at 9:30, will be devoted to the issue of "urban security", while the second, at 10:45, will focus on the "struggle against terrorism".  The meeting will end with a final news conference at 13:00.
