  • International Conference on Violence Against Women - Roma (1st day)
    • The event opens with a welcome address from President of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano, followed by speeches from Foreign Minister Franco Frattini, from Equal Opportunities Minister Maria Rosaria Carfagna, from Noble Prizewinner and Life Senator Rita Levi Montalcini, from UN Deputy Secretary General Asha Rose Migiro, from Mrs. Chantal Compaoré, wife of the President of Burkina Faso and from Mrs. Manda Zand Ervin, Founder and Chair of the Alliance of Iranian Women.  Also in attendance are Ministers Bibiana Aido Almagro (Spain), Maria Eagle (United Kingdom), Helena Guergis (Canada) and Aliye Kavaf (Turkey), together with acting Council of Europe Secretary General Mrs. Maud de Boer-Buquicchio and ministers from numerous African countries, as well as a delegation of Afghan women from the world of politics, culture and civil society.

  • International Conference on Violence Against Women - Roma (2nd day)
    • The International Conference on Violence Against Women ended with the reading of the Italian Chair's concluding statement . It was read out at the end of the second day of the proceedings by Italian Equal Opportunities Minister Mara Carfagna.

  • G8 Parliamentary Meeting - Roma (1st day)
    • On the first day the speakers address the issue of "the use of new communications technologies in relations between parliaments and civil society". After addresses from Chamber of Deputies Speaker Gianfranco Fini, from French Assemblée Nationale Speaker Bernard Accoyer, and from US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the speakers' delegation is received by President of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano at the Quirinale Palace. In the evening the G8 speakers attend a dinner in the presence of Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi at the Villa Madama.

  • G8 Parliamentary Meeting - Roma (2nd day)
    • The agenda for the final day kicks off with a morning session devoted to the topic of "the role played by parliaments in promoting intercultural dialogue and social integration", with an introductory address from US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The talks continue in the afternoon with a meeting, expanded – for the very first time in the history of G8 speakers' meetings – to include speakers from parliaments in emerging countries,on "the contribution of parliaments to the struggle against drug trafficking and organized crime". The session opens with an introductory address delivered by Antonio Costa, the executive director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
