01/01/2009  In a message addressed to Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone to mark World Peace Day, the Foreign Minister outlined Italy's goals for the year in which it will be heading up the G8 Summit.

04/12/2008  As of 1 January 2009, Italy holds the G8 presidency. The summit’s logo was presented officially in Rome on 4 December by Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, Foreign Minister Franco Frattini and Under Secretary Guido Bertolaso, to whom responsibility for organising the major event has been delegated.

Foreign delegations continue to visit the Summit venues. On 13-14 February, the Finance Minister’s Meeting opened the year’s calendar of meetings which will conclude with the Summit on 8-10 July at La Maddalena. On 19 February, Prime Minister Brown is on an official visit in Rome to define with the President of the Council Berlusconi the priorities that will be discussed in the next international meetings.
