In the course of the news conference for the presentation of the G8 logo, Foreign Minister Franco Frattini briefed journalists on the issues linked to economic development and energy consumption that the appropriate ministers will be addressing at ministerial meetings prior to the July summit. In particular, Minister Frattini discussed the work that the energy ministers will be doing in an effort to promote fully fledged permanent liaising between the countries that produce energy and those that consume it. In Frattini's view, now is the time to get the major energy-producing countries involved in establishing global ground rules designed to allow diversification and to foster advanced energy-saving technology. Frattini stressed that the energy issue will be closely linked to the issues of climate change and of preventing the pollution of the planet.
