Foreign Minister Franco Frattini presented the innovative idea of involving agriculture ministers in the upcoming G8 in the context of issues relating to food safety and to the safety and size of agricultural output.
Following a proposal made by the Prime Minister, the plan is to present to the world leaders the preparatory work being done on the Milan World Expo, which is based precisely on the sustainable use of food safety and on the safety of agricultural produce. The liaison centres for all of this will be the FAO, the UN's Rome-based Food and Agriculture Organisation, and the World Food Programme.
