The French Delegation Visits La Maddalena and the Summit Sites

Commissioner Delegate Bertolaso shows the plastic model of the Arsenal to the French delegates

The first week of February has brought the French delegation as well, headed by President Sarkozy’s chief of protocol, Jean-Pierre Azvazadourian, on a tour of the sites for the upcoming G8 Summit.

The atmosphere was relaxed as the group first toured the area that once housed the military arsenal and is to host the summit from 8 to 10 July and later attended the meetings on the organisational details, such as security, accommodation, transport and press, IT and telecommunications facilities. The G8 organisation’s medical chief and Dr. Alain Courtiol, head of the French president’s medical staff, also held a meeting on health care facilities.

As is customary by now, the members of the French delegation spent 5 February touring the complex where the meetings are to be held during the upcoming summit, accommodation options for the part of the delegation that will not be staying on board the G8 ship and the area near Olbia where the Media Centre for the press is to be set up.

As he left, the head of the French delegation was keen to convey how struck he had been by the natural beauty of the summit venue’s surroundings, by G8 Commissioner Delegate Guido Bertolaso’s assurances regarding the plans for reclaiming, building and imparting thrust to the area given over to July’s meetings and by the organisational aspects of the forthcoming Summit.
