Decree Law for Abruzzo: G8 To Be Held in L’Aquila from 8 to 10 July
29/04/2009
The G8 Summit is to be held at L'Aquila from 8 to 10 July 2009 in an effort to help impart a fresh boost to the social and economic development of the region hit by the earthquake. The measure is part of Article 17 in the decree for Abruzzo which the Italian Cabinet, meeting in L'Aquila for precisely that purpose, approved on 23 April. The bill contains a series of provisions for the people struck by the earthquake that hit the region on 6 April, along with a number of urgent civil protection measures. It is due to begin its journey through the Senate today, prior to becoming law.
Article 17 in the decree enjoins the Commissioner Delegate for the G8 to replan and refunctionalize operations for the organization of the summit, and to take every measure required to relocate the event. Previously adopted measures ordering the start of work on La Maddalena are to remain in force in order to ensure that the projects under construction in Sardinia can be completed and that operations needed to organize the G8 Summit in L'Aquila can move ahead smoothly.
A decree issued by the economy minister, in compliance with a request lodged by the Commissioner Delegate, is to reallocate the savings occasioned by the shift in the summit venue to the Italian state's reserve fund for unexpected occurrences.
