Russian Delegation Tours L’Aquila
11/05/2009
The visits by the foreign delegations to the G8 Summit sites continue in the wake of its venue being moved from La Maddalena to L’Aquila continue. The US delegation has been followed today by Russian representatives, who inspected the Guardia di Finanza Non-Commissioned Officers’ School in Coppito.
The Russian delegation was welcomed by Commissioner Delegate Guido Bertolaso and Prefect of L’Aquila Franco Gabrielli. The 21-strong delegation was headed by the Russian Federation presidential administration’s director of ceremonial, Sergey Sobolev.
After an initial briefing with the Commissioner Delegate, the representatives toured the sites set to house the Summit: the accommodation, the bilateral meeting rooms, the catering area, the Non-Commissioned Officers’ School hall, where the final press conference is to be held, and the sports area next to the School, where the Media Centre will be set up.
The delegates then inspected the earthquake-stricken streets in L’Aquila’s city centre: Via XX Settembre, the students’ hall of residence and the cathedral square.
The European Union delegation is due on Tuesday 12 May, whereas all the other countries involved in the July G8 are expected to make their preparatory tours over the coming weeks.
