The Japanese delegation in L'Aquila

25/05/2009

The foreign delegations’ preparatory visits to L’Aquila, the new venue for the July G8 Summit, have resumed. The Japanese delegates made a tour of inspection at the Guardia di Finanza  Non-Commissioned Officers’ College in Coppito today, where they were welcomed by the director of the Civil Protection Department’s International Relations Office, Agostino Miozzo.

After watching the film presenting the Summit sites and the broader organisational aspects, the 24 Japanese delegates, headed by Foreign Ministry Director Yasushi Misawa, inspected the various premises where the Heads of State and Government will be holding their plenary sessions and bilateral meetings and the quarters where the delegates will be working and staying. The G8 Mission Staff chiefs then showed the Japanese delegates the Guardia di Finanza  College hall, where the Italian duty presidency is to hold the final press conference, and the sports area next to the college, where the Media Centre is to be set up.

The various working parties subsequently met for in-depth talks on the security, media and logistics aspects. The Japanese delegates were able to visit L’Aqulia city centre in the afternoon, where they toured the areas hardest hit by the earthquake: Via XX Settembre and the cathedral square. Their day ended with inspections of Preturo Airport and the hotels where the delegates not staying inside the Coppito Guardia di Finanza  College will be able to stay. The German delegation is expected in L’Aquila on Tuesday, 26 May.
