Delegations from China, Egypt and India visited the Guardia di Finanza Non-Commissioned Officers' School, which will be hosting the G8 Summit in July, in Coppito on the outskirts of L'Aquila, today. The three delegations, led respectively by Sun Yuxi, the Chinese Ambassador to Italy, by Ashraf Rashid, the Egyptian Ambassador to Italy, and by Indian delegation Chief B.V. After a briefing to illustrate the venue where the Summit is to be held and to acquaint the visitors with general organizational aspects of the event, the delegates, numbering more than 30, visited the accommodation where the delegations are to be housed and the areas where the working sessions and bilateral meetings will be held. The inspection continued with a visit to the area earmarked for hosting the final news conference, to and the sports area adjacent to the Non-Commissioned Officers' School where the Media Centre is to be set up.
Later on in the morning the chinese, egyptian and indian representatives were able to pay a rapid visit to the historical centre of L'Aquila, which was so badly damaged in the earthquake. Upon their return, they attended a general meeting to allow them to air their views on the inspections they had conducted. This was followed by separate working meetings to address certain specific issues linked to the Summit's organization in greater depth. Delegations from Brazil, Mexico and South Africa are expected to visit L'Aquila on Thursday 4 June.
