The tour by the Netherlands’, Spain’s and Turkey’s representatives has completed the round of inspections in L’Aquila by the countries attending the July Summit.

The three delegations, invited in their capacity as “Other Countries,” were headed by, respectively, the Dutch Embassy’s Economic Affairs Adviser, Marc Gerritsen, the Spanish Prime Minister’s Director of Ceremonial, Miguel Utray, and the Head of the Turkish Foreign Ministry’s Department of Protocol, Omer Gucuk.

The director of the International Relations Office at the Civil Protection Department, Agostino Miozzo, welcomed the delegates and briefed them on the Summit areas and the event’s various organisational aspects.

The three delegations followed the well-established programme, touring the areas of the Guardia di Finanza Non-Commissioned Officers’ College that are to host the Summit: the conference halls and rooms for the bilateral meetings, and the rooms where the delegates are to be quartered. The technical working parties then met the G8 Mission Staff chiefs to examine the organisational aspects in greater depth.

The delegations toured L’Aquila’s earthquake-stricken city centre in the early afternoon, visiting Via XX Settembre and the cathedral square in particular. The representatives of Spain then went to the Media Village at Chieti, where the journalists for the G8 Summit in July will find accommodation.
