Original G8 Summit Venue La Maddalena To Host Louis Vuitton World Series
2/10/2009
The Louis Vuitton World Series will be the first in a series of major events due to be held over the next few years in the complex originally built on the island of La Maddalena with a view to hosting the G8 Summit, which was later transferred to L'Aquila following the earthquake in April.
The huge effort made by central and local government and funding made available ahead of the G8 Summit made it possible to clear, reclaim and securitize a unique natural heritage, restoring the environment, the existing infrastructure and the landscape in the course of an operation unparalleled in Italy in terms of the technologies adopted. In the course of a ceremony held on 12 and 13 September, this heritage was handed back to the community of La Maddalena and to the whole of Sardinia.
The cabinet declared the sailing event, due to be held in the archipelago of La Maddelana in 2010, a "major event" on 2 October. A communiqué released by the Palazzo Chigi explained that the event has been "declared a 'major event' in accordance with measures currently in force, and in order to allow intervention on the part of the Civil Protection Department".
The organisation will have its own stand at the Genoa International Boat Show from 3 to 11 October in order to illustrate both the sailing event and the complex that will be hosting it.
