Rome/Lyon Group on Combating Terrorism and Crime Meets in Palermo
18/11/2009
A meeting of the Rome/Lyon Group on combating terrorism and transnational organised crime has wound up in Palermo. The meeting was held in the context of activities connected with Italy's G8 presidency. Among other issues, the meeting focused on the implementation of the UN convention on transnational organised crime that was thrashed out in Palermo 10 yeas ago. The convention was inspired by the figure of Judge Giovanni Falcone, who would have been 70 this year.
The meeting was opened by Prefect Paola Basilone, the new deputy chief of the Italian State Police, and by Palermo Police Chief Alessandro Marangoni, who illustrated the method followed in the recent investigation that led to the arrest of Cosa Nostra number two Domenico Raccuglia.
