"Open Day" at the G8: Summit Venue in L'Aquila Opens Its Doors to the Public
11/07/2009
The G8 Summit venue in L'Aquila is to open its doors to the people of Abruzzo, allowing visitors to inspect the meeting rooms, the dining halls where the working luncheons and dinners were held, the bedrooms occupied by the World's Leaders and the Media Village where over 3,600 journalists worked. The Guardia di Finanza Inspectors' Campus in Coppito, where the Summit was hosted, will remain open to the public from 10:00 to 19:00 both on Saturday 11 and on Sunday 12 July.
Inside the campus area the public will also be able to visit the three exhibitions organized for the G8 Summit, two of which are devoted to the art of Italian excellence and the rediscovery of L'Aquila's historic and cultural heritage, while the third is devoted to the earthquake and to the reconstruction process. In the Main Conference hall visitors will also be able to see the Capestrano Warrior, a 6th c. B.C.E. statue standing over 2 metres high and considered to be the symbol and guardian of Abruzzo. The musicians who performed for the Heads of State and Government Leaders - the Solisti Aquilani and the "Alfredo Casella" Aquila Music Conservatory - will be performing at 17:00 on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12.
